New Bond Street
Bonhams next sale of Old Master Paintings at New Bond Street on 9 July 2008 will feature a stunning scene of the Piazza del Popolo in Rome by the Dutch landscape artist Gaspar van Wittel (1653-1736). Last seen at auction in 1923, the painting is expected to fetch £500,000-700,000. The view of the Piazza del Popolo would have had particular resonance for foreigners on the Grand Tour as it often afforded travellers their first glimpse of Rome.

Bonhams To Sell The First Production Jaguar D-Type Owned By Littlewoods Family

Goodwood Festival of Speed
The very first production Jaguar D-Type to roll off the line in 1955 will star in Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on 11 July.
The 1955 3.4-litre Jaguar D-Type Sports-Racing Two-Seater, chassis no. XKD 509,
was raced in the USA by Lou Brero Sr in 1956 – 57. It was subsequently preserved
for many years in the magnificent – and discreet - private collection of the late
Nigel Moores (nephew of the creator of the Littlewoods business empire), and is
owned today by his son James Moores.

Licensed to carry 100 passengers on the river and kitted out to cater for 70, 'Belle' has worked on the Thames and the river Severn and comes to Bonhams' sale in tip-top condition after a major restoration four years ago.
