The market for Modern and Contemporary Art from Asia has developed dramatically over the past ten years as collectors from around the world have increasingly recognised the rich and diverse cultural histories of the region. Bonhams was early to promote the importance of this field and held its inaugural sales of Contemporary Asian Art in 2006 in London and San Francisco. In 2012 Bonhams held in Hong Kong the landmark sale Voyages of Discovery of important works by Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun.
Bonhams holds sales of Modern and Contemporary Art from Asia each year in the Spring and Autumn in Hong Kong. In addition to strong demand for the work of contemporary artists from the region we have seen increased demand recently from our clients for more historical works by artists from the Gutai, Mono-ha and Dansaekhwa movements.
Recognising the increasingly global nature of the interests of collectors from the region, Bonhams is pioneering the promotion of the market for artists from around the world within Asia through its sales in Hong Kong of Prints, Photographs and Works on Paper.
