New York− The May 16 sale of Post War & Contemporary Art achieved US$7,002,000 with sell-through rates of 88% by lot and 98% by value. The top lot of the sale was Hans Hofmann (1880-1966), A Certain Mood, 1959, which realised $1,387,500.

Jeremy Goldsmith, Director of Post-War & Contemporary Art, Bonhams commented: "The great results achieved in today's full saleroom is a demonstration of the exceptional works we are able to offer our clients that are well-estimated and fresh-to-market. We are very proud of the top lot achieved, A Certain Mood by Hans Hofmann, which drew intense competition from many bidders and ultimately bought by a client in the room. Top prices were realised at all price levels, with notable highlights including Wojciech Fangor's M37, Roy Lichtenstein's Brushstroke Head I, an outstanding sculpture from his iconic series, and Wayne Thiebaud's delightful Camellia Cake and Summer Angel by Helen Frankenthaler, both from the estate of Margrit Mondavi."
